What should I buy to shave my with?

So I have a date coming up and decided to shave my - first I took my electric razor's flip out to them (very carefully) and removed the length, but there are still little stubs - I've tried to remove them with the flat head of the razor but that seems to be equally dangerous and ineffective, so I'm thinking when I go to the store tomorrow I'm gunna buy a disposable razor plus cream / gel of some sort to cleanly finish off the shave (get rid of the little hair stubs). I haven't ever shaved with anything other than electric before, and I've never shaved my , so I have no idea what to buy - what type of disposable razor should I look for? And what type of cream / gel? I want to have no chance of getting cut (I just read an FML where I guy cut a vein doing this and had to be taken to the ER, so I'm a bit scared, lol), and of course I want a clean shave. What should I get?
