Introduce new kitten into household with an established adult cat..?

I have a female, indoor, two year old cat....declawed in the front....well tempered for the most part. Playful at times, mellow at times, fiesty too. She has been the only pet.......I am now considering bringing home a kitten to join her........Thoughts, suggestions.......is this a workable situation or will the adult cat become mean and territorial to the new addition?
